Governor Ralph Northam’s medical school has completed an investigation into how a racist photo ended up on Northam’s yearbook page. They’re releasing their findings in a press conference on Wednesday.
The infamous yearbook photo features a person in blackface and another in a Ku Klux Klan robe. Eastern Virginia Medical School hired a law firm to conduct the investigation shortly after the photo surfaced in February.
The investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the yearbook’s 1984 publication and the campus culture at the time. The school’s president has apologized for blackface photos that are sprinkled throughout the school’s yearbooks and set up and advisory board to focus on diversity at the school.
Northam initially apologized for appearing in the photo on his page but later denied it was him. He ignored calls from his own party to step down and has resumed public appearances.
Attorney General Mark Herring, who admitted to wearing blackface, is also still in office. So is Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, who is accused of sexually assault.
