The City of Richmond’s Eviction Task Force will meet for the first time on Monday, to begin its work alongside the city’s new Eviction Diversion Program.

The group will evaluate root causes for the city’s high eviction rate, and come up with solutions to lower that number. Members include housing advocates, Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority officials and public housing residents.

RRHA is one of the city’s highest monthly evictors, according to a lawyer with the Central Virginia Legal Aid Society. In an effort to help tenants catch-up on back-rent and other debts they may owe, the agency will continue its freeze on all evictions through the end of the year — it has partnered with the Eviction Diversion Program to meet that goal.

Monday’s meeting will take place at 4 – 5:30 p.m. in the large conference room on the 2nd floor of City Hall.
