Dozens of people rallied in Richmond Thursday night to protest military action in Iran.

Many fear a broader conflict will erupt between the U.S. and Tehran following President Donald Trump’s surprise killing of a top Iranian military official last week.

The protest came as the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution that would force President Trump to get approval from Congress before he can go to war with Iran. Virginia Representatives Donald McEachin (D - 4th District) and Abigail Spanberger (D - 7th District) voted in favor of the resolution. Rep. Denver Riggleman (R - 5th District) is against it, calling the measure “political tripe” in a tweet

Virginia Senator Tim Kaine is working to gather support in the Senate for a similar resolution.

“No matter your political party, we should all be able to agree that Congress must debate, vote and be accountable for the question of whether another war in the Middle East is a good idea,” Kaine said on Twitter.
He said the Senate will vote on the resolution as early as next week.
