The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming presidential primary in Virginia is Monday, Feb. 10.
The March 3rd primary is only for Democratic presidential candidates. Republican candidates will not appear on the ballot in March. Instead, the state party will hold a vote at the quadrennial convention, held on May 1st at the Richmond Convention Center.
Primary voters must update their registration with their current address and any name changes. Any Virginia resident can check or update their registration online, or register to vote for the first time, at the Virginia Department of Elections citizen portal.
Virginia residents as young as 17 may register by Feb. 10 to vote in the primary provided they will turn 18 by the date of the general election, held on Nov. 3.
If you need to register, you can do it in person by 5 p.m. Monday at your local registrar’s office, via mail, or online at the Department of Elections website before midnight. Anyone who can’t vote in person may apply for an absentee ballot through the citizen portal.
