In Mount Vernon’s virtual tour, you'll be welcomed by a period actor portraying George Washington. You can navigate a 360-degree video and go inside the buildings around the site.
Caroline Logan, Virginia Tourism’s communication director, says, "There’s a lot to explore you can do from your own home and sort of create some bright spots and some moments of joy."
Mount Vernon is just one of many Virginia landmarks the state is encouraging people to visit virtually while they're practicing self isolation to slow the coronavirus outbreak.
Some of their online attractions include exhibits at James Madison's Montpelier, teachers’ resources at Colonial Williamsburg, and virtual tours at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture and more than a dozen other sites. Mount Vernon even has a live “lamb cam.” Logan says, "It’s a way to show you support and even find some new things to love about Virginia."
And she says, when things get back to normal, they hope you’ll be inspired to come in person.

Mount Vernon offers full tours of the mansion, including information on artifacts and historical features. And don't miss the lamb cam - starting daily on YoutTube at 12 p.m.
The Colonial Williamsburg foundation is offering a wide variety activities from virtual museum tours to at-home activities. Many are geared towards teachers and students, especially an interactive timeline of the Stamp Act, which led to the Revolutionary War.
On the edge of downtown Norfolk, the Chrysler Museum is home to some 30,000 exhibits. The building is closed to limit coronavirus spread, but over 1,000 objects are available in their digital collection, and a virtual tour is available through Google Maps.
Abingdon's historic Barter Theatre is closed to audiences, but the resident company is still performing. They'll stream their current production, a version of Peter Pan, on their website, and also plan to offer educational components and other entertainment.
