Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney is expected to detail his plan for the city’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic at his State of the City Address this afternoon.

Administration officials familiar with the mayor’s remarks tell VPM that Stoney will outline his vision for an equitable recovery focused on increasing access to public transit, public input on economic development deals and improving public safety. After a sometimes violent summer of racial justice protests, Stoney is expected to address ways to improve the relationship between the Richmond Police Department and the public.

Richmond’s annual State of the City address was originally planned for January 28, but was delayed following news the mayor had contracted COVID-19.

Due to the pandemic, Stoney will give his remarks virtually and they will be shared live via the city’s website, Facebook and YouTube pages.
