McGuire, Witt meet for only 5th Congressional District debate

Republican state Sen. John McGuire and Gloria Witt, his Democratic opponent to represent Virginia’s 5th Congressional District, met for their only debate Thursday night at Hampden-Sydney College, near Farmville.

After a half-hour centered on mainstream topics like energy and the economy, the discussion pivoted to the events of Jan. 6, 2021. Witt alleged that McGuire “was there at the Capitol,” while McGuire said the crowd that day “had a right to be heard.”

"Remember, Hillary Clinton challenged her election," he said. "There is nothing wrong with challenging irregularities until you're satisfied."
