Richmond’s new City Council signed off on Mayor Danny Avula’s Jan. 5 emergency winter storm declaration and his interim chief administrative officer.
The nine-member council met virtually Wednesday and swiftly, unanimously approved three resolutions. Most city and state buildings are closed amid the ongoing water outage and boil advisory.
New 3rd District Councilor Kenya Gibson said once Richmond’s water is restored, work must be done to “ensure this doesn’t happen again.”
As VPM News previously reported, the advisory is unlikely to be lifted before Friday. Shortly after that, Henrico County issued a countywide boil advisory.
The council also unanimously approved Sabrina Joy-Hogg’s interim appointment as Richmond’s chief administrative officer. Joy-Hogg, the city’s former senior finance and administrative deputy CAO, was nominated in December after Lincoln Saunders resigned.
