Election Day is less than a week away, but Sen. Barack Obama has already made history.

In August, he became the first African American to accept the presidential nomination of a major party. Exactly 45 years earlier, Martin Luther King Jr. made his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

So, how did Obama realize King's dream, and how did he rise so far so fast? For insight, NPR's Tony Cox speaks with people familiar with the senator and his life story.
