Discover native plants for your garden and landscape

Meet a master gardener who has replaced her lawn with native flora and learn how Indigenous Peoples are working to save seeds and reestablish traditional crops.  Allison Hurst and Dr. Robyn Puffenbarger share gardening tips you can use.

 

Keith Nevison visits Dr. Dorothy Tompkins, a master gardener and master naturalist, to explore her home landscape in North Garden and learn more about the bounty of native plants she is nurturing.

In-studio, Amyrose Foll, Executive Director of the Virginia Free Farm, shares heritage vegetable varieties cultivated by indigineous peoples, including Penobscot pumpkin and Potawatomi beans.  She and Peggy Singlemann talk about seed saving techniques and the importance of preserving these unique crops.

Virginia Home Grown Clippings airs at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday mornings and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings on VPM. Episodes can also be seen at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings on VPM Plus.
