Get ready for ghosts and goblins and long-legged ghoulies! Halloween is here – with all the pumpkin carvings, face paintings, and walking zombies that makes this holiday so much fun. Check out spooky family-friendly events happening near you – you might even learn something new amid all the silliness! Beyond the All Hallows Eve festivities, you’ll find music, literature, and local art to warm the chilly (and chilling) nights!

1. SHOCKOE HILL CEMETERY WALKING TOUR

Witness the living dead 17th Annual Richmond Zombiewalk starting at Sen Organic & ending at The Byrd Theatre from 2:30p-3:00p. Trick-or-Treat as participating businesses (look for the treat pumpkin in the window) pass out candy from 4:00p-6:00p - and more of course! It's a truly unique day in Carytown! 12. MEMORY'S JOURNEY: ADDRESSING DIFFICULT FAMILY HISTORY

For Archives Month, join the Library of Virginia to explore how family histories are preserved by archival institutions throughout the commonwealth and how to encounter and interpret these histories today. What do you do when the difficult history you need to cope with is within your own family tree? How do you make peace with the actions of your ancestors? Does uncovering difficult history change life in the present? These themes will be examined with Memory Wars podcast host Mallory Noe-Payne, Virginia author Timothy Kilby (Gourdvine Black and White: Slavery and the Kilby Families of the Virginia Piedmont) and public historian and genealogist Karice Luck-Brimmer (community initiatives program consultant with Virginia Humanities).
