What You’ll Need:

  • 2 boxes Devil’s food cake mix, baked in 3 layers to package directions
  • 12 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 t. Vanilla extract
  • 2 c. heavy whipping cream
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • ⅓ c. cherry brandy or liqueur


Step 1: Trim the cakes to flatten each one. This cake will have three layers of cake and two layers of filling.

Step 2: In a mixer, whip together the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla until smooth and well mixed. Add the heavy cream and whip until the mixture is thick like whipped cream.

Step 3: Drizzle about 1 to 1 ½ T. liqueur on each cake layer. Lay one cake layer on a serving plate and top with a little more than ⅓ the cream. Spread evenly to the edge. Top with another layer of cake and repeat. Top with the last cake layer. Mix the remaining cherry liqueur in the pie filling and pour the filling over the cake. Skewer the cake to keep from sliding and place in the refrigerator to chill.

Step 4: Slice the cake and serve with remaining dollops of cream.
