VPM's Keyris Manzanares nominated for 2024 Ñ Award from National Association of Hispanic Journalists

VPM is excited to announce that reporter Keyris Manzanares has been named a finalist for a 2024 Ñ Award from National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ).

Manzanares was recognized in the radio/online audio journalism category for her reporting on Louisa mobile home residents done in partnership with Mark Robinson and Duy Linh Tu through support from the Economic Hardship Reporting Project. The two-part housing series details the struggles of residents at Six-0-Five Village Mobile Home Park in Louisa County after it was purchased by an investment firm in 2022.

“This national award nomination reaffirms and reignites my commitment to Bilingual journalism that puts real people first,” said Manzanares. “Time and time again, Spanish-speaking communities are left out of news coverage, which often allows the challenges they face to only deepen or go unnoticed and underreported. At VPM News, we are committed to becoming a trusted source among the Latino community to continue raising diverse voices and perspectives.”

The awards highlight excellence across multiple categories, including print/digital, television, photography, and radio, along with special recognitions for investigative journalism and civil rights reporting. This year’s honorees will be recognized at the NAHJ 40th Anniversary Conference & Expo in Hollywood, CA.

For more information, read the official press release.

Earlier this month, Manzanares also served as the keynote speaker for the Latine Cultural Achievement Ceremony at her alma mater, VCU. The annual ceremony celebrates the achievements of Hispanic/Latine and Caribbean undergraduate, graduate and doctoral candidates, providing students with a positive and rewarding experience that recognizes hard work, dedication and perseverance. You can watch her speech on YouTube (She is introduced at the 32:53 mark).
