For over 25 years, Style Weekly photographer Scott Elmquist has captured some of Richmond’s most iconic moments.

On Friday, the Society of Professional Journalists (Virginia Pro Chapter, SPJVA) announced that Elmquist has been honored with the prestigious 2024 SPJVA Lifetime Achievement Award. Read more about Elmquist’s recognition and see some of his work in this Style Weekly article.

The award has been given out by SPJVA since 1964 and seeks to recognize journalists that have “exceptional character and dedication to the craft.”

SPJ is the nation’s most broad-based journalism organization, dedicated to encouraging the free practice of journalism. The organization works to inspire and educate current and future journalists through professional development and protects First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and press through its advocacy efforts.

In November 2022, Elmquist’s work was prominently featured in Style Weekly’s 40th anniversary issue, which highlighted several significant milestones in both Richmond’s and Style’s history.
