Our special guests for this week’s program hail from both coasts and bring their own individual artistry and sensibilities to a seasoned trio led by Seattle’s Eli West, a gifted guitarist and songwriter who we first encountered in a brotherly vocal duo with fellow Northwesterner Cahalen Morrison. Those shoes would be filled on this March evening by mandolinist and professor at the Berklee College of Music, Joe K. Walsh who’s toured with Darol Anger, the Gibson Brothers and Joy Kills Sorrow. The two would be joined by Boston-based fiddler Mariel Vandersteel, herself a Berklee grad with extensive international touring and collaborations with the likes of Edgar Meyer, Mike Marshall and Chris Thile under her bow. Enjoy this tasteful mix of vocal harmonies and intricate instrumentals recorded in March of 2017.

In Your Ear offers a chance to discover new artists and appreciate the “in the moment” creativity and inspiration that only live music can provide. Studio A is a “great room,” a haven for artists with intimate, friendly and informed audiences and peerless audio fidelity, thanks to engineers Carlos Chafin, Andrea Stefl and Paul Bruski. JAMinc president Tim Timberlake produces the programs covering a wide range of genres including bluegrass, jazz, blues, old time, Celtic, gospel and singer-songwriters of many styles. Artists range from superior local and regional talents, to premier acts from all over the country. Concerts are held monthly except during the summer and begin with a delicious pot luck buffet in the lobby. Check our website for information and reservations: jaminc.org/events.

Production funding of In Your Ear is made possible in part by... Digital Video Group, Infinity Financial Partners, Threshold Counsel PC, the Virginia Folklife Program and the members of 88.9 WCVE Richmond Public Radio. Artist accommodations in cooperation with the Hampton Inn West.
