Plenty of high energy and hi-Jinks on Time For The Blues

high energy background with a guitar neck close up

Henry Cook and I hope you will join us this Saturday night, April 20th, at 9:00 as we drop another full tilt boogie episode of Time For The Blues! We’ve got so much fun planned for you that it’s impossible to see how we managed to fit it all into one hour…

For example, we’ve got some Rick Estrin & The Nightcats that’s so new, it’s not even out yet. That’s right, The Hits Keep Coming is scheduled for a May release but our friends at Alligator sent it to us early so we could share it with you.

And it’s smokin’!

Once you’ve listened to The Nightcats and their leader, Rick Estrin, you’ll forever be changed by their high energy style of blues and we’ve chosen some of the rockingest numbers on the disc.

Also coming your way is a look back at the Goldwax label, a small independent label out of a Memphis drugstore that had a lot of talent and very little distribution. We’ve always been fans of those regional labels that had the audacity to butt heads with the big guys and we always pull for the underdog to win.

Well, Goldwax had the talent to break out, they just ran into problems getting their music into the hands of people who could help them. They may not have lasted long, but Henry and I are fans and we’re going to share their passion with you.

But that’s not all we’ve got. We’ve got sides from The Shadows Of Knight, The Buckinghams, and the Blues Magoos. You won’t want to miss them.

And there’s still more! We’ve got releases from Trudy Lynn and Luther Allison.

And now for some very exciting news. Say you want to go to a blues show at one of your favorite local music venues. It’s on a Saturday night so you don’t want to miss Time For The Blues. Well, now you don’t have to, because, episodes of Time For The Blues are archived for two weeks. So you can catch both shows! Just go to vpm.org/music-archives and scroll down until you come to Time For The Blues, then you can listen to your heart’s content!

All that and a few surprises to boot! All in all, it’s a great show and we would love to have you join us for the fun if you care to join us at 9:00 this Saturday night. That’s April 20th, and you can find us on one of these great VPM Stations: 89.1 WCNV, Heathsville; 90.1 WMVE, Chase City; and the flagships, 93.1 and 107.3 VPM-Music and 88.9 HD2, Richmond, and online at VPM.org where it’s always Time For The Blues!
