As the Commonwealth continues to ease out of Phases Two and into Phase Three guidelines for reopening businesses and events, we will see more galleries, music venues, and museums opening their doors. Some have already opened, but many others begin welcoming visitors and patrons this week - albeit with necessary social distancing protocols.

1. VOICES FOR CHANGE
History/Culture

The Black History Museum and Cultural Center presents their new online video series, Voices for Change. In each segment members of our community share their personal perspectives on various topics, such as the history of protest or how to talk to your children about systemic racism, then the BHCCC poses questions for viewer reflection. This series hopes to serve as a catalyst for change – change in thought, change in behaviors, change in actions, change in systems.
2. 1 ANGRY BLACK MAN FILM DISCUSSION

July 1, 7pm
The Byrd Theatre is thrilled to have the filmmakers of 1 Angry Black Man participate in a virtual film discussion on Facebook Live. Watch the film for $4.99 in The Byrd’s Virtual Screening room, then listen to writer/director Menelek Lumumba, founding chairman/CEO of Soulidify Productions BK Fulton, and president of film/production of Soulidify Productions Monty Ross talk about their award winning film.
3. LET THE SPIRIT-UAL MOVE YOU

The Garth Newel Music Center presents the YouTube premiere of Let the Spirit-ual Move You, featuring the songs “Sometimes I feel like a Motherless Child,” arranged by Lawrence Brown; “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot;” “Give Me Jesus,” arranged by Moses Hogan, with Isaac Melemed on cello and Jeannette Fang on piano; and original jazz compositions by The LeBoeuf Brothers.

Gallery5 is excited for you to submit your artwork for Another Look At America, their virtual exhibit for RVA First Fridays. There is a fee of $5/submission and the deadline is July 29th at 5:00pm. 5. BEERS AND BANJOS

The Camel brings back Beers and Banjos (socially distanced, of course!!!) with the Slack Family Bluegrass Band! Reservations are required and there is a $5 fee to hold your table. Go HERE to read the social distancing guidelines for attending the show.
6. TEEN SUMMER CHALLENGE FILM FESTIVAL

July 6-9
Lights, Camera, ACTION! The Powhatan County Public Library challenges teens, grades 6th-12th to show off their directing or acting prowess, by creating a 5-20 minute short film for submission to their Teen Summer Challenge Film Festival. Create your film, email it to [email protected] by midnight on July 6th, then join the library in a virtual festival on July 9th from 4-6 PM to view each film while a panel of teen judges chooses a winner! 7. SUMMER READS TOUR

Get ready for a fun, free night of romance with a virtual Summer Reads Tour on Crowdcast! Moderated by Kelly Justice, owner of Fountain Bookstore, authors Sharina Harris, Vanessa Riley, Farrah Rochon, and Kwana Jackson will discuss their latest must-read books for the summer.
8. INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Pamplin Historical Park, 6125 Boydton and Petersburg Plank Rd, Petersburg, VA 23803
Proclaim America’s Independence at Pamplin Historical Park with fun activities and programs starting at 10am, to include a patriotic ceremony with the pledge of allegiance and a cannon fire salute. Families are invited to participate in 19th century games such as a sack race and 3-legged race, among others, to be held on the picturesque Tudor Hall lawn. A period baseball game will also be held at the Battlefield Center Field where guests are invited to join in the game. Please keep the park's social distancing requirements in mind.
