In addition to the substantial offerings from our art community this week, our cultural community highlights history. Whether you take an outdoor tour or participate in an online panel, you have a great opportunity to take a deep dive into the rich history of our region and beyond. There are even volunteer opportunities to help catalogue history for some of our cultural institutions. 1. SUNKEN CITIES LECTURE SERIES - EGYPT & KUSH: SUPERPOWERS OF THE NILE VALLEY

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts hosts Nubiologist/Egyptologist Caroline Rocheleau as she explores the complex relationship between the two superpowers of the ancient Nile Valley. Discover the similarities and differences between Egypt and its southern neighbor, the Kingdom of Kush in Nubia, and learn how differently the two were perceived by early explorers and the West.

Volunteer to help uncover history! What did Virginia newspapers report about Nazi persecution during the 1930s and 1940s? In partnership with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Virginia Holocaust Museum, the Library of Virginia offers three virtual “research sprints” into their newspaper collection. 4. GOBLINCON 2020: A VIRTUAL FUNDRAISER FOR FEEDMORE

Goblincon is a fun & inclusive way to support the nerdy Richmond small businesses you love. A completely virtual convention bringing together local RVA tabletop gamers, artists, musicians, cosplayers, and creators, highlighting the best that Richmond has to offer during this time of social distancing. Panels and performances will be live-streamed on Goblins & Growlers’ Twitch channel. Word on the street is that there also will be some live-play tabletop games!
5. WALKING TOUR: BEYOND THE PALISADE - UNKNOWN HISTORY AT DUTCH GAP

This 90-minute walking tour will bring visitors to the Henricus bluff on the James River and will touch on the many layers of history. The tour covers the 17th-century Powhatan Indians and founding of Henricus fort, the 1781 Revolutionary War battle of Osborne’s Landing, the transformations of the early republic and subsequent landowners - including the communities and enslaved populations – and the Civil War with the Union occupation of the land. The final part of this tour will examine the remains of the lightkeeper’s house, and the monuments found on the bluff, as well as Dutch Gap’s use in WWI.

7. FOUNDRY SERIES: PUBLIC PROTEST, RIOT, AND RESPONSE
