The Richmond Forum is known for its ability to attract high-profile guests who can speak on some of the most noteworthy topics that Americans care most about. The 2023-2024 season at the Forum was no different, with appearances by Dr. Anthony Fauci, Liz Cheney and more.
On Apr. 20, the final program of the most recent season, titled “On the Docket,” featured legal affairs journalists Jan Crawford and Kimberley Strassel, and was moderated by Jayme Swain, President & CEO of VPM and the Virginia Foundation for Public Media.
“I’m honored to have had the opportunity to participate in this discussion with two esteemed journalists about the Supreme Court and some of our country’s most significant issues,” said Swain.
Swain moderated the conversation between Crawford and Strassel, which centered around the Supreme Court. Among the topics discussed were notable cases on the docket, including cases regarding reproductive rights, the First Amendment and former President Donald Trump, as well as friendships between Supreme Court justices.
“The Richmond Forum has long served as a platform for conversations that aim to inform audiences in Richmond and across the country,” said Swain. “An important step toward a more informed public begins with civil discourse and the exchange of different perspectives.”
Despite waning trust in the Court from Americans, Crawford and Strassel noted how the Court often maintains common ground even when they disagree on how to interpret the law. This is the result of how the justices ultimately strive to uphold the law and traditions of the Court, as well as the seriousness with which the justices take their relationships with one another.
In addition to the conversation around the Supreme Court, the schedule for the 2024-2025 season of The Richmond Forum was also announced, which will include Martha Stewart and Coach Mike Krzyzewski, among others.
