Violinist & composer Layale Chaker visits the Modlin Center Friday evening

Layale Chaker & Sarafand will bring a unique listening experience to concertgoers in the Modlin Center for the Arts Friday evening (2/16) at 7:30pm. Famed Syrian clarinetist Kinan Azmeh will join the group as a guest artist.

Layale stopped by our VPM studios for a live chat and performance on the air. She shared some stories about her rich cultural and musical background, as well as what Sarafand is all about. With a deep respect for the rich cultural heritage of the Middle East, the ensemble infuses traditional Lebanese and Syrian music with a modern sensibility.

I hope you enjoy her charming personality and music-making, and have the chance to catch Friday evening's performance here in Richmond.
