Virginia Opera is back in Richmond this weekend, teaming with the Richmond Symphony to produce Puccini’s masterpiece “Madama Butterfly.” “A tale of love and sacrifice set against a clash of cultures, Puccini’s use of authentic Japanese themes and soaring Italian lyricism creates a powerful emotional experience.”

Soprano Danielle Pastin, who charmed audiences as Liù in Puccini’s Turandot with Virginia Opera in 2016-2017, is back singing the role of Cio-Cio-San, opposite tenor Matthew Vickers as the American naval officer who loves her and leaves her.

Artistic Director Adam Turner brought along Kristen Choi (Suzuki) and Levi Hernandez (Sharpless) to our WCVE Music studios to discuss this production. Performances are Friday evening (March 29th) at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoon (March 31st) at 2:30 p.m. in the Carpenter Theatre at Dominion Energy Center.

Yours in good music,
Mike Goldberg Classcial Music Host, 93.1 and 107.3 WCVE Music
