The City of Richmond is home to several popular events each year. But none may be more popular than the Richmond Folk Festival (RFF). Since 2005, the annual festival draws thousands of attendees from across the country to celebrate the variety of American culture through the arts. A new documentary from VPM, Venture Richmond and the Richmond Folk Festival is chronicling the history and impact of the annual event.
The Sounds of Culture: 20 years of the Richmond Folk Festival looks back at the festival’s roots and how it shaped the event that is so well-attended and fondly regarded today. The documentary highlights several features available on the expansive festival grounds and profiles the RFF’s director of events while following him around the 2023 festival. It also describes how music brings all the festival’s aspects together.
