Scenes from the VPM tent at the Richmond Folk Festival

VPM had a great time at the Richmond Folk Festival last weekend and we hope you were able to attend! Check out the slideshow of photos (above) for a few glimpses into the activity and fun at our tent, where festival-goers had the opportunity to record radio break introductions, meet VPM News reporters and music show hosts and share their ideas for how history and music shape each other.

The Richmond Folk Festival celebrated its 20th anniversary and thousands of people attended the festival to enjoy the music and art from a diverse array of cultural traditions.

In celebration of this anniversary, VPM – along with Venture Richmond and the Richmond Folk Festival – created The Sounds of Culture: 20 years of the Richmond Folk Festival, a documentary that looks back at the festival’s roots and how it shaped the event that is so well-attended and fondly regarded today. It can be seen online at vpm.org/folk and on the PBS app.
