Henry Cook and I hope you will join us for Time For The Blues this Saturday night, July 13th, at 9:00 as we are releasing a special episode of new and classic blues for your listening pleasure.
First up is Toronzo Cannon, the left-handed former Chicago bus driver turned respected blues guitar slinger and singer. Well, he’s got a brand-new album out, Shut Up And Play, on Alligator, so you know it’s going to be high class all the way. We’ve got a few tracks from the new CD as well as one from a previous release so you can get a real feel for his talent.
One of the most famous members of the Blues Brothers Band was the late great Matt “Guitar” Murphy who passed away a few years ago. Before he left us, he recorded a few pieces that he was working on. Unfortunately, he never got to finish them.
His friend, Bobby Christina took those pieces and built songs around them for his new album, True Blues Brother: The Legacy Of Matt Guitar Murphy on Nola Blue. We’ve got a couple of those tunes for you as well as one from Murphy’s time with Memphis Slim and His House Rockers from the fifties and one from the Blues Brothers as well.
That’s not all. We’ve got some Hot Leftovers from The Yardbirds, Mouse And The Traps (yes, that’s a real band), and Blues Project.
If that wasn’t enough, there’s also new releases from our pal Johnny Burgin featuring Rae Gordon, Rick Estrin, and the Markey Blue/Ric Latina Project.
And jokes. We say our jokes aren’t bad, they’re just misunderstood.
All in all, it’s a great show and we would love to have you join us for the fun if you care to join us at 9:00 this Saturday night. That’s July 13th, and you can find us on one of these great VPM Stations: 89.1 WCNV, Heathsville; 90.1 WMVE, Chase City; and the flagships, 93.1 and 107.3 VPM-Music and 88.9 HD2, Richmond, and online at VPM.org where it’s always Time For The Blues!
