John Porter

  • On John’s Porch this Sunday morning, October 16th we’re going to look at songs that say “hello” or “goodbye.” While I always try to stay on the positive side (hello), there are a lot more songs that fall on the negative side (goodbye). It’s easier to write about the finality of a situation than the beginning.
  • Henry Cook and I hope you will join us on Time For The Blues this Saturday night, October 8th, at 9:00 p.m. as we present another classic retro show of great blues.
  • This week on John’s Porch, we’re going to investigate this elusive and demanding part of all our lives. We have timely songs in the first hour from Ray Cardwell, Colin Hay, Becky Buller, Jimmy Dawkins with Otis Rush, Whitney Shay and more. We’ll have the time of our lives listening to this hour of great music.
  • I thought it would be fun to celebrate the road and those who wander down them. We’re not going to follow the yellow brick road to Oz, just simple roads that may take us from here to there. Some roads may not even be physical, just metaphorical.
  • The moon has long since stirred the imagination of poets, songwriters, and novelists. We might as well join them and sample the fruits of their labors. I will admit that growing up in the days of the space race, my imagination was also piqued, and I’ve never lost my love of exploring the heavens.
  • Henry Cook and I hope you will join us this Saturday night, September 24th, for a special edition of Time For The Blues. Every so often we get so caught up in bringing you new blues, we forget that some listeners don’t know about the great men and women who built the blues.
  • Henry Cook and I hope you will join us for Time For The Blues this Saturday night, September 10th, at 9:00 p.m., as we present several ladies with powerful voices and lots of new releases for your listening pleasure.
  • I hope you will join me on John’s Porch this Sunday, September 11, from 10:00 until noon, as we pay tribute to The River in music. There’s a primal force at work with the mighty rivers, and there is something magical about the smaller ones that has attracted artists of all types since the beginning of humankind.
  • We’ve got a busy Labor Day Weekend here on John’s Porch! We’ll be in our usual Sunday morning slot from 10:00 until noon, and we’ll also take over the airwaves on Monday evening from 7:00 until 9:00, in place of Annie Parnell’s Weekday Jazz Program! I certainly hope you can join me on one or both occasions as each show is unique.
  • Henry Cook and I hope you will join us for Time For The Blues this Saturday evening, September 3rd at 9:00 as we present a classic episode from the past. We’ll revisit the great Canadian Group Downchild as they unleash their 50th Anniversary Album that they recorded live at the Toronto Jazz Festival.
